I am a son, brother, husband, and father (to three mini-Schnauzers). Although I've never formally been diagnosed, I'm pretty sure I have some form of functional ADHD. I can't sit still for long periods of time and need to keep my mind busy with a multitude of things.

As a result, I wear several hats:

1. My main source of income comes from my own business, africaMASSIVE. In short, we do conferencing, events, and travel, with a focus on ecology related and academic projects. Website: https://africamassive.co.za/

2. One of my main passions in life is trauma medicine. I am a first responder in the greater Midrand (Johannesburg) area and also share the knowledge as a Stop the Bleed instructor (https://www.stopthebleed.org/) which is accredited through the American College of Surgeons, and is owned by the American Department of the Defense.

3. Sharing the spotlight with trauma medicine, is my passion for security and law enforcement. I am currently the SCF/CPF Operations & Patrols coordinator for Midrand Sector 5. We report to the Midrand SAPS Station and are their partners in policing. In addition, I am Head of Security for my neighbourhood, Barbeque Downs, in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, which has several thousand residents. In past years, I have also served on Anti-Poaching Units and led Farm Security (Anti-stock Theft) teams.

4. Last but not least, is my love for everything living and found in nature. Whether it’s diving the ocean, spending time in the bush, or walking pangolins going through rehabilitation, I want to see/help/save everything and anything!

Sporting bio:

I have been active and done sport from the moment I could walk. For me, besides the obvious health benefits, sport teaches discipline and allows you to meet many people from all walks of life. In high-school, I did almost every sport our school offered, and by the end of matric, was part of several 1st teams. I also represented KZN in some of these sports. Nowadays, I do whatever I can to stay active... From hiking, rock-climbing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, to golf, padel, and swimming (to name a few), I'm keen to do it!

I was born in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. It's a little town on the west coast just outside of Vancouver. In my early 20s, I took a job as an au pair in Switzerland and finally left Canada for the first time. Living in the heart of Europe, I discovered my love for travel. Growing up I never imagined I would have such an opportunity. I never moved back to BC but lived in Ontario, the US and Austria. I have been married now to my husband for 14 years. We live in Basel, Switzerland. We have a 13 year-old daughter, Emma, who has developed our love for travel and inspires us to do what we can to make the world a better place for her to explore and live in.  We want her to think of herself as a world citizen and try to set that example—not just for her sake but for that of future generations

I love running, biking and hiking. I've completed several half marathons over the years and even a full marathon. Last year I completed the Rhino Peak Challege for the first time. I had an amazing time and knew straight away I'd do it again this year

Reason for taking challenge:

I have been volunteering with Wildlife Act since 2019. I have returned year after year, sometimes twice in a year.   I have even had the opportunity to volunteer with my husband and daughter. Being a volunteer with Wildlife ACT, working alongside the monitors, fellow volunteers, meeting park staff, anti-poaching units and reserve veterinarians has given me a real sense of what conservation looks like.  And this motivates me to try to do what I can to help this important work So why take the Rhino Peak challenge?  Generally, because I strongly believe in a few mantras:  Actions speak louder than words.  A true act of kindness always sparks another. And more personally, to show my daughter Emma that by working together we can do great things. By taking part in Rhino Peak, my hope is to not only reach my fundraising goal but to create more awareness for this amazing platform. I want to try and encourage people to help in any way they can. To understand that no contribution is too small. And to remind ourselves how fragile this planet is and how sad the future would be losing another species

Inspired by Ron Rutland’s early journey of “fat kid on the bike”. If he can get his carcass from Cape Town to London on a bike, I can get my 100kg+ frame up the Rhino.

Born and raised in Cape Town, I have always had a passion for wildlife which started at a very young age and has only grown. For the last just over 7 years I have been with Go2Africa, and have held various operational roles in my time; most recently that of Client Experience Team Leader. Being with Go2Africa has allowed me to combine my love of travel, with the privilege of being able to contribute to various Positive Impact partners across different countries in Africa that Go2Africa is supporting, one of which being the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

Sporting bio:

Since the age of 4 I've always been involved in some sort of sport. For the last few years however, my focus has been CrossFit which keeps me occupied 4 - 5 times a week. In my spare time I love walking anywhere with a view, which we are spoilt for choice for in Cape Town! Some of my favourite's being the Sea Point promenade, and the Constantia Alphen Trail.

I'm a lover of challenges, mountains and trails, as well as wildlife conservation, and taking part in the Rhino Peak Challenge allows me to tick each of these boxes! I've always wanted to feel like I could "do more" in the conservation space as well, so I am thrilled at the opportunity to raise funds for EWT in my personal capacity.

In brief I am an animal and nature lover and I enjoy different perspectives, mentally and physically, and what better place could there to be combine all these, then mountains -as they usually come with a (weather dependant, true that) view. I am originally from Austria, but for the last years I made South Africa my second home. I moved here for a quite unique job, working in an big cat sanctuary, looking after the health and wellbeing of lions and tigers. As the sanctuary is quite close to Golden Gate and the Northern berg, I enjoy spending my off weekends there, running, hiking and exploring and time spent in the mountains is never a waste but always an enrichment.

Rhino Peak challenge in 2021 was one of my first trail runs or rather hikes and since then I participated in a few; the (baby) whale trail, runtheberg, ultratrail drakensberg in 2023 and 2024, and the ultratrail cape town last year, so the first Rhino peak challenge definitely started something for me. I will never be a fast runner, but always a happy one :-)

Reason for taking challenge:

I have taken this challenge once before, 3 years ago and enjoyed it so much, the whole package really. The reason and cause behind it to raise money for conservation, and the built up before. The challenge itself was great, filled with lots of great people, laughter, joy, some sweat and elevation gain. :-) So I am happy that time is on my side this year and I get to be a part of it again.

Rhino Peak has always been a special place for me as it is where I paid my last respects to Graham Anderson who passed away some years ago.Some friends and I erected a small plaque in celebration of his life and now whenever I see Rhino Peak I think of Graham.Im also good mates with Spurge and want to support him and the causes he supports.Im really looking forward to the challenge.

Having accumulated more than 4500 kilometres on the trot, in pursuit of raising funds for CHOC, Gordon turned his attention towards supporting the most forgotten members of society, and the people who need the most help. Initiating his "healthy midlife crisis" after several health complications of his own, Gordon became intuitively aware of the struggles beyond his frame of reference. Inspired by the activities of the CHOC Cows, he soon joined ranks with the team, going on to help raise more than R7 Million for children diagnosed with cancer within his 6-year tenure on the committee. Now age 50 Gordon has since moved onto helping smaller charities and works with Traderoot Active raising money for Rainbows and Smiles, Salt40 and even did The Rhino Ride last year to help Rhino Conservation in Manyoni. Whether it's hiking, biking, walking, swimming, triathlons, or cycling the Amashova on an ice-cream bike, handcycle or tandem with one of his daughters, Gordon is ready for action (and could save you from a plane crash too - ask him about this!) As he focuses his efforts, combining his natural agility and sales talent, Gordon has founded Get Hands On Events - Events for Good. Get Hands On Events was launched as part of the 24-Hour Handcycle Relay Race. This race saw participants pedalling in 2019, raising money to support Ethembeni School in Cato Ridge. Through coordinating, implementing, and participating in this event, Gordon and the Get Hands On Events team raised more than R50 000 for the school. Moving ahead, Gordon planned to unlock new avenues of value generation for sponsors, charitable organisations, and community-focused initiatives. The plan for 2020 was to launch a series of significant, off-the-wall, yet deeply meaningful events that would have rolled out, to raise money for kids with cancer. As we all know, however, events and races were summarily cancelled or postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020's schedule had included a series of events entitled "Run the Mall for Kids with Cancer" and several other races. Jason: I'm a 30 year old Accounting teacher. I grew up in Cape Town and would spend most of my holidays camping around South Africa. I have grown up in a very active family as we spent most of our holidays hiking, swimming and mountain biking.

Joshua: I’m a 17 year old student at Grace College. I love chess, mathematics, chemistry and physics. I strongly enjoy sports such as cross country, Athletics, tennis and swimming. Being outside is always a pleasure for me as it is a calming escape from the busy and stressful lifestyle.

Wian: I'm a 16 year learner at Grace College who is excited about conservation and sport. I am the eldest of three with two supportive parents, I love Rugby, Cricket and Hockey and always keen to help out in every other sporting code I can try. I'm excited for this opportunity to challenge myself and raise funds for a worthy cause.

Sporting bio:

Jason: I have always been an active person growing up. Some of my best achievements have been playing provincial hockey for WP and KZN inland at the South African Country Districts tournament. I competed in the Walkerbay Big 6 competition and completed many other olympic distance triathlons. I have competed at a high level in Hockey, Waterpolo and Soccer and also have been a very active coach in all three. I enjoy all triathlon disciplines and completed 3 Midmar miles, 3 Cape town argus cycle tours and recently completed my first half marathon at the two oceans.

Joshua: Earlier this year I took part in the KZN Athletics and came 3rd for both my leagues for the 1500m. I was also qualified and took part in the KZN athletics Championship for the final round of the boys 1500m and finished in a position of 8th. I took part in the Umgeni water marathon and finished 2nd in my age group. I love my running and love competing in races and I am curious to see where my running career will bring me.

Wian: Currently a member of the Grace College First Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Soccer teams. I enjoy playing a round of golf when I can. I have represented MCC in division 1 Club Cricket and also recently been selected for the U19 KZN Inland Tier 2 Cricket team. I have aspirations to run a half marathon within the next 5 years and will hopefully continue to grow my love for running in the future.

Reason for taking challenge:

We are a student-teacher team from Grace College, a school nestled in the hills of the KZN Midlands. With classrooms that look out on the Drakensberg, we are constantly reminded of South Africa’s natural beauty, as well as the need to protect it. We want to use our love for fitness to raise awareness for conservation. Our team consists of a teacher (Jason Fair) and two students (Wian Oelofsen and Joshua Klopper). Our school motto is ‘My Utmost for His Highest’. This is exactly what we want to do. The Rhino Peak Challenge will be difficult, but we want to do it to our utmost; both for our school and our God.

As a child growing up in Underberg, we would spend alot of time playing in the rivers and going for walks. A good weekend away with my wife and two energetic boys would be camping at one of the local parks. I was a round tabler for 9 years and did alot of fundraising and helped with many good causes, as Sani 152 still does.

Sporting bio:

Having enjoyed running my whole adult life, my wife and I always have a race to train for. We take part in the local races, Sani Stagger, Ultra Trail Drakensberg, Gooderson Trail Run and the Glencairn trail runs. I have also run the Rhodes Run (whilst snowing) and the Mutter (getting lost in the mist) and had a great time running the iMfolozi Outrun. In the last few years getting a bit more adventures and jumping off Bloukrans bridge, which is the highest commercially operated bungee jump in the world. And abseiling down the Maletsunyane falls in Lesotho, which is the highest commercially operated abseil n the world.

Being fortunate enough to spend so much time in nature, and be physically able. It really was a no brainer to take part in this awesome event to raise funds and awareness.

It’s truly my happy place!

I have always wanted to do this epic challenge in aid of conservation. I’ve become friendly with a few of the folk from Wildlife Act over the years and really admire the great work they are doing. Perfect opportunity to be able to have an epic weekend in the berg and contribute to a charity that is very close to my heart.

About me:

Born into a family of runners and bush lovers, I've had a passion for both from a young age. Growing up in Joburg, most holidays we would be in the Greater Kruger region, while weekends were spent at the running club cheering on the folks. My work brought me to Cape Town 5 years ago, and now you can usually find me and my dogs on the mountain, exploring the beautiful trails we have on our doorstep. Some of my other loves include cooking, camping, birding and the occasional good drink.

Sporting bio:

I've always enjoyed running, and this year I'm looking to upgrade from mediocre to half-decent. RPC will by my longest trail run, and I am aiming to complete a full road marathon by the end of the year.

Reason for taking challenge:

Working at go2africa has given me the opportunity to collaborate with companies like the EWT, whose amazing conservation efforts have inspired me to bring that positive impact into my own work. The Drakensberg is also a bit unknown to me, and the chance to run in these spectacular mountains was one I couldn't miss!

About me:

I am a wife, a mother of three, a grandmother of two and a lover of Africa. Adventure was always part of who I am and I like to take a challenge. I grew up in the Western Bushveld and today we are farming citrus, potatoes, onions and tomatoes in the Baltimore region and also near Tom Burke on the banks of the Limpopo River. My fascination with wildlife dates back to childhood. It has led to the regular and intense observation of animal behavior. I studied BSc Zoology and Botany at the University of Johannesburg, and after that my Honors in Mycology. I enjoy Wildlife photography and travelled Africa occasionally.

Sporting bio:

I did as much sport as I could during my whole school career such as tennis, athletics and netball. I did one or two half-marathons after school. I started mountain biking in 2004 and still enjoying it today. I completed numerous single stage events ans also a few multistage events: Tour de Tuli (twice), Desert Knights in Namibia, Namaqua Quest and the Trans Baviaans 24 hour challenge. In 2022 I completed the 10-day Namaqua Camino hiking trail.

Reason for taking challenge:

If we want to ensure that true nature exists for generations to come, it is vital to empower people to protect the unspoiled, natural environment through conservation. We must teach people to understand why it is important to conserve our natural resources and expose more people to Nature in all her glory. The world faces a race against extinction, but I do have hope for the future. Let us embrace the beauty of Earth and believe in tomorrow. As the Indian blessing says:”Let us walk softly on the Earth with all living beings great and small, remembering as we go, that one God, kind and wise created it all.” I hope my contribution can make a difference.

Do Esports qualify? ;) I jest. I love a challenge, and having last done a formal trail event some 15+ years back... This is that! Informally I never shy away from a jaunt in the mountains, a bodyboard session or a free dive. Weight training on the regular and sporadic yoga phases (qualified teacher).

About me:

I grew up on a farm in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. I have always loved mountains, the outdoors, horse riding etc. Naturally I found myself living and working in the bush after my studies. I currently live and work in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, Zululand. I work with the anti-poaching K9 Unit based inside the reserve. I assist with the daily training and handling of dogs for tracking purposes, mostly rhino poachers. I also oversee canine welfare, camp maintenance and donor reporting. I assist the park with whatever help they need, this includes black rhino monitoring, security camera deployments in the field and wildlife veterinary work/game capture.

Sporting bio:

I dont have a sporting bio really. The only physical activity I do is running in the bush with the K9 and walking far distances for black rhino or camera traps. I have done Cathedral Peak Challenge, and a few outruns. I do enjoy tennis and running/walking in mountains.

Reason for taking challenge:

WildlifeACT has been one of the major supporters of the K9 Unit in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. I decided it was time for me to give back and try raise funds for the wildlife I work with every day. In the field of conservation, donor support is critical for the survival of protected areas and wildlife, as government does not meet the operational demands in provincial reserves to keep fighting independently. I have experienced this personally on the ground and have been incredibly grateful and inspired by all the generous people supporting the work that needs to be done. I would therefore also like to do what I can to keep moving forward.

I’m excited to participate in the Rhino Peak Challenge this year. At Go2Africa we strive to protect Africa’s wildlife and communities, and as an ambassador of my company, and this incredible running event, I would like to raise as much awareness and funds as possible for the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Every donation – no matter how big or small – will aid in the preservation and protection of endangered species, their natural habitats, ecosystems, and surrounding communities.

20 years ago I was playing competitive sport and had a massive spinal injury, I was told I would never be able to run or play any team/court sport again which was tough because I loved it. Fast forward years of yoga, acupuncture and walking, I have recently started supervised running, strength training & hiking again and am loving it, but it is early days so this is a BIG challenge for me!

1. I run the partnership we have with EWT, collaborating with the team on the projects we support 2. I love nature & love the Drakensberg 3. I don’t normally have fitness goals or participate in group events so why not set myself this massive personal challenge, for a cause!

Since 2020, Go2Africa has embarked on a journey to contribute to and support various positive impact initiatives across the continent with partners who share our vision, values, and hope. The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is one of those key partners, and on very close to my heart.

Sporting bio:

I would say that sport is my passion. I've tried just about every sport I've had the opportunity to try. The only one that never really caught my fancy was long distance running funnily enough. The sport I've taken the furthest and most seriously is hockey, having played many years of Premier League hockey in Gauteng as well as having the privilege of playing in several Interprovincial tournaments.

Reason for taking challenge:

Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandpa, Pat Fletcher. He was the ultimate conservationist and was involved in a great deal of conservation projects with the EWT over the years. I was lucky enough to join him on many trips all around South Africa where my love for nature, animals and conservation has grown. I see the RPC as an opportunity to remember and honour my grandfather by giving back a tiny fraction of what he gave of himself in his life time.

After working in financial services for the first half of my career, I found purpose back home where I worked in various purpose-driven tech startups. I am now combining my need to deliver impact with my love of travel in my role at the Nawiri Group and Go2Africa as Head of Customer Experience. I get to connect others to the beauty and vulnerability of Africa, while having an impact on her land, her animals and her people. What more could I ask for?

Sporting bio:

I have spent most of my adult life running, hiking or walking - at various speeds and intensity. I've loved combining travel with races, doing half marathons around Europe while living in the UK, some altitude hikes while backpacking around South America in my 20s (Inca trail and Huayna Potosi), and more recently some trail runs and multi-day hikes closer to home. I've been desperate to get back to trail running fitness after a few setbacks, so that I can more easily get out and explore the beauty around me. This challenge provides the perfect opportunity to do that.

I am passionate about the work of the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Go2Africa supports their work, and I grabbed the opportunity to further support them in my personal capacity. The opportunity spend time in the majestic Drakensburg mountains supporting a great cause, was an easy YES for me!

Two reasons... 1. I've never run in the Drakensberg, and look forward to bagging a peak in one of the most beautiful parts of the country! 2. EWT is a Positive Impact Partner of Go2Africa, and a cause that we support wherever possible. Go2Africa donates $20 to the Endangered Wildlife Trust for every trip booked that includes a night at one of our selected Kruger camps. Our donations help provide funding for EWT’s conservation projects, including the tracking and monitoring equipment required to provide protection for endangered species such as the vulnerable African wild dog (‘painted wolves’).

Having spent 8 years guiding and then subsequently managing a lodge on an Eastern Cape Game Reserve, I only started by latest adventure of Client Experience Expert at Go2Africa in November 2023. Go2Africa has a strong focus on positive impact and supports various projects including EWT, which not only makes them a wonderful organization to be associated with, but also the primary reason for me taking part in this challenge. I have always been passionate about the outdoors, the beautiful landscapes of this special country, as well as the creatures that share it with us. The Drakensberg, in particular, has a special place in my heart. Some of my earliest memories are from the Drakensberg, as it is a place my family loved dearly while I was growing up and where we spent many unforgettable holidays - climbing its impressive mountains, boulder hopping down its magnificent rivers, looking up at its frozen waterfalls and watching with interest as the animals and birds who call it home go about their daily lives. As an adult, my passion for the "Berg" did not diminish - I completed many trail runs and mountain treks through the Berg, scaled some scary peaks and made many more memories. I live Jo’burg with my beautiful wife and a ‘furbaby’ daughter, where I work as Banker, funding large infrastructure projects that solve the complex power, transport, water and telecoms challenges that bedevil the African continent.

Sporting bio:

I like to think of myself as a runner. Running is something that has been a part of my life in one form or another since I first learnt to put one foot in front of the other. As a very young kid, I prided myself as being one of the fastest kids my age, but somehow the longer distances always held some unique and magical appeal. I competed in track, but also branched out into cross-country and some road races. I guess I liked the challenge of having to find some hidden reserves within myself that allowed me to push harder and further, to see what I was capable of. After school, I took up road running and gravitated toward longer races. Half marathons were my specialty and seemed to be the 'sweet spot' for me. I was fortunate enough to get quite a number of 'Silvers' under my belt (sub 1h30) before attempting my first marathon. Marathons felt like a completely different sport! My first one nearly killed me - I had blisters everywhere and no nipples when I finished. I couldn't walk properly for a week! But I went on to run well over 100 more, including 10 Comrades Marathons, 10 Two Oceans Marathons and many more Ultra Marathons. My 3 Comrades 'Silvers' and lone Two Oceans 'Silver' rank as my proudest achievements. However, there are so many other magical running 'moments' that make me feel so incredibly blessed to be alive: - running alongside a Bearded Vulture in the 'Mont Aux Sources Challenge' for a few hundred metres near the top of the Berg - eating the best French cheeses, pastries and drinking EUR 500 a bottle wines dressed as a French scrumhalf during Marathon du Medoc - feeling like a Gladiator finishing the Rome Marathon at the Colosseum to cheering crowds - drinking an Erdinger Weißbier looking back at the Brandenburg Gates just after crossing the finish line of the Berlin Marathon; - summiting the ‘Iron Crown’ in the Wolkberg on the site of what used to be my Grandfather’s farm; - cresting the top of Cowies Hill on a Comrades 'Down Run' sandwiched between Alan Robb and Leonid Shvetsov (2 of the greatest 'Down Run' runners ever!); and - completing my first ‘Stay-at-Home’ marathon, doing 85 metre loops around my garden during the first hard Covid Lockdown. Running is definitely the sport I have felt most connected to in my life, and which has taken me all over the world, including Ultra Marathons through the forests around Paris in the snow, sleet and driving rain and catching 4am ferries with cattle farmers to circumnavigate rural Scottish islands through peat bogs! I am proud to call myself a runner and to be associated with the sport (including all of its derivatives - long, short, track, on road, off road or round my garden!). I hope to continue to be involved in some capacity or other as long as I am able to. ??

Reason for taking challenge:

The Rhino Peak Challenge (RPC) is the perfect combination my passions of running, exploring beautiful wild places and wildlife conservation, and there can’t be a better place to do this than in the spectacular Maloti Drakensburg! Growing up, and spending most winter holidays in the Berg, aside from hiking and horse riding, one of my family’s favourite pastimes was visiting a bird hide where we could view the magnificent Bearded Vulture (or what we used to call at the time, a ‘Lammergeier’) feeding. The Bearded Vulture is an absolutely iconic bird of prey – the thought of this precious species being under threat is a frightening thought. I was honoured to be called upon to be a 2024 Rhino Peak Challenge Ambassador and take on the epic climb to reach the 3,056 metre summit, in the process raising funds for this excellent cause.

Our family has enjoyed numerous hikes and adventures in outdoor environments including South African game parks. Tanzanian safari's, Alaskan trek in bear country, Yellowstone backwoods hikes and Dolomites hiking in Italy. We are actively promoting wildlife habitat on our farm in Iowa.

Reason for taking challenge:

We have lived in South Africa and have hiked into the Rhino Peak area. Preservation of endangered groups such as Rhino's, Africa Crane and Vultures are indeed important and merit accepting the Rhino Challenge. Unfortunatly we are not able to join the Rhino Challenge in 2024 but are grateful that Malibongwe Sibiya from KZN has offered to join the team in the Rhino run. Mali is an employee of the Wildlife ACT Southern Berg assistance project. He is working directly in monitoring and assisting in critically endangered species such as vultures. We think Mali will be a great ambassador for the Rhino Challenge in 2024

Zandre: Netball coach that loves a good nature walk, trail run or a lekker hike. Oxpecker Trail run: 2021,2022, 2023 (loved it). Currently training for a half marathon, maybe even an ultra-marathon.

Amy: My main sports at cricket, football and running. I'm in the football and cricket 1st Teams at school. I'm also a cricket umpire for the Central Gauteng Lions. I've umpired at a few Cricket South Africa national weeks and hope to find a future career in umpiring.

Zandre: Epic challenge where we have a chance to give back and have the privilege of doing it in the lovely Drakensberg mountains, bonus!

Joshua: I am passionate about nature conservation and wildlife preservation. I love hiking and I enjoy challenging myself to try new things and test my limits. It is for these reasons that I wanted to be a part of the Rhino Peak Challenge. By being a part of this challenge I can push myself in the name of a fantastic cause - helping to save rhinos and other endangered animal species.

Amy: I was given the opportunity by my school to take on the Rhino Peak Challenge. I believe that it would be a great way for me to combine my involvement in vulture conservation and my love for running.

I am a father of 2 beautiful girls and am based in Durban. As a family we love the outdoors, and spend lots of our time in the Drakensberg and in the bush. Being outdoors has been a key part of my up bringing and it forms the core of who i am, and how i want my children to be brought up. I am the owner of Impi LIVE, an events company who operates Splashy Fen and many other outdoor events. Our events aim to raise funds for the communities we operate in, to date having raised over R1.5m for conservation based operations around KZN.

I was involved in rugby as a referee for 21 years with SA Rugby and World Rugby, refereeing at test level at a Rugby World Cup and cross border tournaments such as Super Rugby and European Rugby.

Reason for taking challenge:

Underberg and the Southern Drakensberg has been an important part of my life for many years. From my days as a kid and family holidays, to more recently being involved in the running of the Drak Challenge and as festival director of Splashy Fen Music Festival, the oldest music festival in Africa. Our company Impi LIVE has contributed significantly to the localy community over the past 10 years, and this is another way that we are able to do this. This will be the second time that i have run the Rhino Peak Challenge and i look forward to being a part of the 2024 event.

About me:

Originally from the United States, a safari trip in my teens resulted in my heart being captured by Africa. My love of the bush brought me to relocate to Africa in 2018 to work in the safari lodge industry in Zambia, Malawi, and finally South Africa. After several years living among elephants, I joined Go2Africa in 2022 to share my love of travel and safaris with a wider audience. My time working in nature reserves gave me the unique opportunity to be involved in various conservation projects, and Go2Africa's support of various conservation and positive impact projects was a big influence in me joining the company. My free time is mostly spent walking the trails in my home's wildlife estate with my GSP pup, a sundowner watching the nyala in my backyard, and occasional trips to visit my husband as his camp in the Kruger.

Sporting bio:

I spent my youth as a competitive swimmer, and over the years have been a recreational snow skier, waterskier and waterski instructor, and scuba diver. I found a new interest in fitness in my 30s, and now regularly explore nature trails.

My work in the safari lodge industry in the Greater Kruger and living in Hoedspruit has really opened my eyes to the need for conservation funding. The opportunity to be directly involved in a fundraising campaign for EWT is really aligned with my personal values, with wildlife conservation being a big part of why I uprooted my life to move to Africa 6 years ago.

Travers Pellew: Representing South Africa in my age group at two Duathlon World Champs. Placing 2nd in the u23 category at Xterra (off-road triathlon) South African Champs at Xterra Grabouw. Top 5 finishes at 4 Peaks Mountain Challenge, Giants Cup Trail Run, Run The Berg Trail Run and multiple other popular trail races in South Africa. Twice 1st place at The Heaven and Hell Mountain Run. Completing the Rhino Peak Challenge in 2022 & 2023, and many other memorable races and experiences. Abigael Don-Wauchope: I have always had a love for sport and the outdoors. I have been fortunate enough to join my parents sporting events, mostly trail running, all over the world since a young age. Earlier this year I swam 8 miles for charity at Midmar Mile, and supported children with cancer. I am excited that it is now my turn to tackle the mountains, and run for another awesome cause! We as a team are passionate about the Drakensberg and the diversity that it offers us as South Africans. This challenge embraces the beauty on our doorstep and showcases the majestic Drakensberg, as well as the diverse animal and plant life that it offers. This challenge allows us to do our part in fundraising and preserving this special place so that in years to come others can enjoy the Drakensberg and its beauty. Wesley Hill

About me:

I grew up in pretoria and was privileged enough to attend Pretoria boys high school who had a nature reserve that I volunteered to work on on the weekends. I later went on to tswane university of technology, where I studied Game Ranch Management, I detoured from this for part of my life pursuing various hospitality management jobs all the way to helping open up a restaurant for a Michelin chef. After coming to the lowveld on honeymoon my wife and I realised this is where we belong and 3 months later we were back working at a lodge in the greater Kruger area.

Sporting bio:

I grew up playing cricket and field hockey during my school career, after that I got into gyming quite seriously where I started training with a common wealth games medalist in powerlifting. In the last few years I have slowed things down with walking trails in and around the kruger national park and assisting with working with tracking k9s.

Reason for taking challenge:

I am passionate about the bush in general but most of all about using my guiding as a tool to teach the world about the importance of conserving our beautiful land and animals. I have assisted on various anti poaching operations including the brutal killing of rhino's. These emotions when finding those animals that have been slaughtered drive me to do as much as I can to help protect them.
