I am a son, brother, husband, and father.

Although I've never formally been diagnosed, I'm pretty sure I have some form of functional ADHD. I can't sit still for long periods of time and need to keep my mind busy with a multitude of things. As a result, I wear several hats:

1. My main source of income comes from my own business, africaMASSIVE. In short, we do conferencing, events, and travel, with a focus on ecology related and academic projects. Website: https://africamassive.co.za/

2. One of my main passions in life is trauma medicine. I am a first responder in the greater Midrand (Johannesburg) area and also share the knowledge as a Stop the Bleed instructor (https://www.stopthebleed.org/) which is accredited through the American College of Surgeons, and is owned by the American Department of the Defense.

3. Sharing the spotlight with trauma medicine, is my passion for security and law enforcement. I am currently the SCF/CPF Operations & Patrols coordinator for Midrand Sector 5. We report to the Midrand SAPS Station and are their partners in policing. In addition, I am Head of Security for my neighbourhood, Barbeque Downs, in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, which has several thousand residents. In past years, I have also served on Anti-Poaching Units and led Farm Security (Anti-stock Theft) teams.

4. Last but not least, is my love for everything living and found in nature. Whether it’s diving the ocean, spending time in the bush, or walking pangolins going through rehabilitation, I want to see/help/save everything and anything!

Sporting bio:

I have been active and done sport from the moment I could walk. For me, besides the obvious health benefits, sport teaches discipline and allows you to meet many people from all walks of life. In high-school, I did almost every sport our school offered, and by the end of matric, was part of several 1st teams. I also represented KZN in some of these sports. Nowadays, I do whatever I can to stay active... From hiking, rock-climbing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, to golf, padel, and swimming (to name a few), I'm keen to do it!

I'm a proud mom of two, happily married, and passionate about all things Africa. I've spent the past 19 years in the travel industry—14 of those with Go2Africa—where I’ve had the privilege of crafting unforgettable journeys for clients across this incredible continent. Travel isn't just my job; it's a way of life for my family. Whether I'm planning a once-in-a-lifetime safari or setting off on our next family adventure, I’m constantly inspired by Africa’s wild beauty, diverse cultures, and the meaningful connections we make along the way. Being part of the Rhino Peak Challenge gives me the opportunity to give back to the wilderness that gives us so much.

I’ve always had a strong connection to sport and the outdoors. Throughout my school years, I was highly active and competitive, particularly excelling in swimming, netball, water polo, and athletics. Sport was a major focus for me during that time, and I thrived in the team environment and personal challenges it brought. Since leaving school, I’ve remained committed to staying fit and strong through regular gym sessions and strength training. I’ve also pursued my love for the outdoors with experiences like hiking Lion’s Head, completing the Otter Trail, and trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda. Being active in nature is where I feel most alive—it fuels both my body and my spirit.

Reason for taking challenge:

I’m taking on the Rhino Peak Challenge because I believe in protecting the wild spaces and iconic species that make Africa so extraordinary. As someone who has dedicated nearly two decades to sharing the magic of this continent with travelers, I’ve seen firsthand how conservation efforts directly impact the future of wildlife and local communities. This challenge is my way of giving back—to help ensure that rhinos, vultures, and other endangered species not only survive but thrive for generations to come. It’s also a personal journey for me, as a mom and adventurer, to push my own limits for a cause I care deeply about.

About me:

I grew up close to nature, spending much of my childhood in and around the Kruger National Park and my family's fly fishing farm. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for wildlife and the outdoors Today, I’m a master’s student in physics at the University of Cape Town, where I split my time between academic research and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of the Cape Peninsula. When I’m not studying, you’ll usually find me trail running or rock climbing in the mountains. Nature conservation is something I’ve always wanted to be more involved in, and I see the Rhino Peak Challenge as an exciting opportunity to support a cause that’s close to my heart.

Sporting bio:

Sport has always been a central part of my life. Throughout my school years, I spent countless hours on the cricket pitch, rugby field, football ground, and hockey turf, developing a deep appreciation for physical challenge. In recent years, I’ve focused more on outdoor and endurance sports like rock climbing, surfing, and trail running. These activities challenge me physically and keep me connected to nature. They’ve become a key part of my lifestyle.

Reason for taking challenge:

There are many reasons I’m excited to take on the Rhino Peak Challenge. The most important thing is to support nature conservation—something I care deeply about. But I’m also really looking forward to experiencing the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. It’s an incredible part of the world, and having the chance to explore it while contributing to a good cause makes this challenge especially meaningful.

About me:

I was born in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. It's a little town on the west coast just outside of Vancouver. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to live in the US and Austria. I have been married now to my husband for 15 years. We live in Basel, Switzerland. We have a 14 year-old daughter, Emma, who has developed our love for travel and inspires us to do what we can to make the world a better place for her to explore and live in.  We want her to think of herself as a world citizen and try to set that example—not just for her sake but for that of future generations

Sporting bio:

I love running, biking and hiking. I've completed several half marathons over the years and even a full marathon. I have also been lucky enough to participate in Rhino Peak the last two years.

Reason for taking challenge:

Since 2019, I’ve been volunteering with Wildlife ACT. I’ve returned year after year, sometimes even twice in one year, and have had the privilege of sharing this experience with both my husband and daughter. Volunteering alongside dedicated monitors, park staff, anti-poaching units, and reserve vets has given me a real understanding of what conservation looks like on the ground—and how vital this work truly is. That’s why I’m taking on the Rhino Peak Challenge. I believe in leading by example. That actions speak louder than words. That every act of kindness sparks another. And most importantly, I want to show my daughter, Emma, that by working together, we really can make a difference. Through this challenge, my goal is not only to reach my fundraising target—but to raise awareness for Wildlife ACT’s incredible work. I want to encourage others to get involved in any way they can. Because no contribution is too small. And our planet is far too precious to lose another species to extinction. Thank you for supporting this cause—it means the world

We met back in school and been together since 2008, married 2015 and have two children, Matthew 5 years old, born on New Years and Emily turning 3 years old. We have lived in Creighton since being married and love being in a small farming community.

Sporting bio:

Calvin- I have done a few motorbike enduro races including Senqu in Lesotho and a few Impi golds. Love being outdoor and in the mountains, recently joined Kelly on foot in the mountains hiking and enjoyed it. Kelly- I went on my first hike in 2023 up Mnweni and got hooked, since then have done the Leopard and Otter trail and a few local hikes in Underberg.

Reason for taking challenge:

We love and are excited that we have this opportunity to do a little where we can and be involved in such a great initiative. We want our kids to grow up appreciating every living thing on earth, respecting it and caring for it where possible. We feel the best way to imprint this is to show them first hand and to be the example for them. Also it is giving us a good reason to try train having a challenge ahead of us :)

Reason for taking challenge:

Funding is critical to the work we do in conservation. A fundraising event like this brings in much needed funds for organizations doing what it takes to conserve our natural world. I am taking on the challenge again (for the second time) to help raise funding for the EWT.

About me:

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Joburg and East London, with pitstops in Tanzania, Stellenbosch and New York — Cape Town is where I’ve finally found home. I love travel, adventure, trying new things, and find joy in pushing myself outside my comfort zone. I feel most alive when I’m surrounded by nature, the ocean, or dogs (preferably all three). I’m an avid tea drinker, big foodie, self-proclaimed carrot cake queen, and believe that nothing beats a good playlist, and the smell of the sea. I have an irrational fear of fish and water where I can’t see my feet. Thankfully, during RPC, I won’t have to face either.

Sporting bio:

I never quite clicked with traditional sports growing up, but I’ve danced since I was three and recently fallen back in love with it. These days, you’ll find me switching between my running and dance shoes. I’ve completed multiple half marathons and recently challenged myself to the UTCT 35km. Movement has become a celebration, and I’ve fully embraced being a "yes" girl when it comes to a challenge. After all, being able to move our bodies is one of life’s greatest privileges.

Reason for taking challenge:

This challenge brings together everything I care deeply about; nature, conservation, wildlife, and doing something meaningful with this one wild and precious life. Taking it on allows me to give back to something so much bigger than myself and to honour the wild places and animals that have given me so much joy. I want my future children, and generations to come, to experience the same magic I’ve been lucky enough to witness. These animals and wild places deserve our love, respect, and protection. Conservation isn’t just important, it’s essential, and this is my small way of contributing to that bigger picture.

I have been working for the EWT for the past 15 months. As a passionate nature lover and having grown to understand how important nature is to our wellbeing, In order to survive as a species we need to protect all of our natural biodiversity. By taking up the RPC i get to play a small part in making a contribution to conserving South Africa's natural environments.

Sports is one of my favorite things to do from my school days till now. K-Way 4 Peaks was my 1st big race then Two Oceans 21km and this year Just to prove to myself I can I did Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. And it was though but worth the pain. The Proud Feeling afterwards is the best. All just to say I DID IT!!

One more Challenge for the year why not!! ?? Adrenaline is what I live for. Keeping my Sanity. My boys love the wildlife so if I can help to keep them safe for my Children and one day grandchildren to see this will be a fun way to do it.

About me:

I was born in Johannesburg but became a proud Capetonian around the age of 6. My family and I spent several happy years in the Mother City but moved to the U.K.following my cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, we were able to return home together 5 years later and continue to enjoy everything South Africa has to offer. I pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree after having zero clue about what I wanted to do and the kind of career I wished to pursue. I then stumbled into an internship copywriting for a well-known luxury safari company and have pursued writing and social media ever since. With an avid love for travel and the African continent, I feel it's been a perfect match. Outside of my work life, I'm a well-known coffee enthusiast amongst my friends and family, enjoy walks or fun hikes (especially when they lead to coffee), and love venturing off on spontaneous trips or deciding to bungee jump on a whim - did I mention I'm not a fan of heights?

Sporting bio:

Having been an avid horse rider from the age of 3 when I demanded lessons from a yard owner in Johannesburg, I pursued that path for many years competing in Western Province competitions, and even the South African Championships in KZN. Following the loss of my horse, I spent a while wondering what I would do next, which is when running found me. After a slightly tumultuous journey, I have now run several half marathons and find running one of my favourite ways to switch off my mind - and somehow, at the same time, work through anything that's bothering me.

Reason for taking challenge:

Conservation and the continued preservation of our planet and wildlife has always been important to me. I was fortunate enough as a child to have adventurous parents who whisked us off into the bush, particularly Kruger National Park, and could not have imagined a better way to grow up. It's my wish that the generations to come will have the opportunity to witness the magic of Africa and its wildlife in a similar way, with as many of the same species as possible. As a secondary point, I've struggled with various health issues throughout my life and make it a personal mission to take on things that would challenge me both mentally and physically, which I have no doubt RPC will. To me, it's exciting to rise to a challenge while doing so for an incredibly meaningful and important cause.

Hi, I’m Faye, and this year I’m taking on the Rhino Peak Challenge, a tough but meaningful hike up Rhino Peak (3,056m) in the beautiful Maloti Drakensberg World Heritage Site, all in support of wildlife conservation. I work in the world of medical sales, and outside of work I would describe myself as determined, fun-loving and always up for an adventure.

Sporting bio:

Sport has always been a big part of my life. I started with waterpolo in school, then moved into endurance sports: triathlons, Ironman, multiday mountain biking, the occasional marathon and a few trail runs in between. While I’m no stranger to pushing myself, the Rhino Peak Challenge is a different beast, it’s steep, high-altitude, and rugged. But with some training (and probably some heavy breathing), I’ll get there.

Reason for taking challenge:

After having a baby near the end of 2024, I found myself looking for something meaningful, something that would challenge me, reconnect me with nature, and give back in the process. I love the bush. There’s nothing quite like the peace, the space, and the raw beauty of the wild, but it’s also a place under pressure. Without active conservation efforts, we risk losing the very animals and ecosystems that make it so special. I want my child to grow up in a world where they can see a rhino in the wild, not just read about them in storybooks. That future doesn’t happen by chance; it happens because people fight for it. That’s why I’ve committed to raising R30,000 for Wildlife ACT and their incredible work protecting rhinos and vultures. If you’re able to support my effort, thank you. I have been running for many years, started on the road but progressed to trail. My highlights are.... Rhodes Run while snowing! Hole in the Wall to Kai Mouth in 3 days, with a broken big toe. I ran last year and enjoyed the experience. I think we all want to do "our bit" towards conservation. This is an excellent way to contribute, raising funds and awareness. Hopefully by taking on this challenge I can convince individuals and companies to make a donation and do their "bit"

ive run a couple of distances over 100km, but my claim to fame was traversing the outer rim of South Africa over a period of 4 months in order to raise funds for Mental Health!!

This run is about more than personal challenges, our wildlife is facing unprecedented challenges in this day and age, any contribution to bringing awareness or raising funds will shine a spotlight both on the good that people do in this area, and how wildlife is being completely overrun due to people's ignorance and greediness!!

I am a career conservationist and have worked at the EWT for over 15 years. I am married with two kids and two dogs.

Sporting bio:

I am a very active person and have been playing squash, tennis, golf, cricket and touch rugby (after I gave up contact rugby in my late twenties) my whole life. I run at least 20km a week to keep fit in general and I am an avid hiker.

Reason for taking challenge:

As a senior staff member of the EWT I want to take on this challenge to both kead by example in my work environment and challenge myself personally. I am confident that with some focused training I will be able to complete the Rhino Peak challenge in a competitive time. Who knows, it may become a regular annual challenge for me. And of course I want to raise as much funding for the EWT as possible!

About me:

Our family is Ed, Isabel and my running partner, Phillip. We represent an intentional legacy of nature lovers. Growing up on a farm teaches you appreciation and respect for your animals, the land and its people. It's something Ed and I work at in our suburban home where sustainability is key, you are part of a community, do your part. We have been blessed with a lovely plantation, with sections of natural forest nearby and a stream runs through it. Everything is solved with a run in the forest with the dogs.

Sporting bio:

You can do anything on a Kalahari farm, bar swim! It's this freedom of expression that allows you the ability to appreciate any sport may it be for the jol or competitive. Phillip enjoys being part of a team but also the joy of individual sports and endeavours

Reason for taking challenge:

Returning from Weenen Nature Reserve, one of many trips where Phillip has spent time in nature, he spoke of an unforgettable weekend. That's the impact of nature when you experience the multiplicity of the web of life. Though, this experience was different. It was facilitated by passionate conservationists and generous donors. They do it because they LOVE IT! Such generosity of spirit. Education and awareness of our diversely beautiful country is becoming more important as so much is being eroded by the Spirit of Greed and the lack of knowledge. The conservationist at Wildlife ACT is fighting this scourge daily and they need our help. The Rhino Peak Challenge fundraising conservation initiative now in its 10th year, allows Phillip and me the privilege of trial running in the pictureous Drakensburg, to ascend the Rhino's Peak. It also gives us the opportunity to reach out, work hard and offer something back for which we have received so generously.

About me:

I’m a husband, a dad, and have a sense of humour that seems to cut through all of me, no matter how professional I should be. I am a creative who spends most days behind a computer in Johannesburg, which makes getting outdoors feel that much more valuable. I try to get to the mountains whenever I can, but it’s not nearly as often as I’d like. Still, every time I manage to hit the trails, it’s always worth it. Doesn’t matter how bad the day’s been, being out there just resets things. I once heard or saw on an IG reel that you will never regret going on a run. My family is everything. I want to be a good role model for my kids, to show them that it’s okay, and we should all try to chase hard things, as well as that doing something uncomfortable can lead to something meaningful. Conservation is a big part of my extended family, and I’ve always felt like I needed to step into that space too. We weren’t here first, and we won’t be here last, but we are here now, so we may as well take better care of what’s around us. Fun Fact: I have some weird superstitious sports habits. I keep certain pairs of socks for specific days because they’ve got good energy. And yes, my shoelaces get tied and tucked in specific ways before certain runs. Call it weird. Or just habit. Either way, it helps me.

Sporting bio:

I love all things to do with activity and getting out there. I’ve played hockey for about 20 years straight, never missing a season. I used to be pretty decent on a mountain bike, it was a huge part of my life for a long time. And while I don’t train as much as I should these days, running has managed to stick around. I’ve done a bunch of halfs, a couple of 32s, a few full marathons, and an ultra trail. I once accidentally won a short trail race too… which was a bit wild, but very cool. My biggest running challenge so far was MAD2Run in 2021, a relay from Joburg to Cape Town. One of the toughest shifts was in the Tankwa: midday heat, heavy wind, and a seriously tired body after days on the road. It wasn’t fun, but it was brilliant. Heading into Rhino Peak, I just want to be fit enough to give it the beans when I need to, but still comfortable enough to take a moment, breathe, and be fully present in the mountains.

Reason for taking challenge:

This challenge is about doing more than talking. Likes and shares don’t help a rhino that’s being poached, or vultures that have been poisoned. But raising funds, actually showing up, does. If I can do that by running up a mountain, then I’m in. One of my best mates (grown men should really say that more often), Henry Cock, who’s also doing the challenge, is one of those people who just commits and makes it happen. It’s a quality I deeply admire. He asked, and I said yes. Simple as that. We should definitely do this. There wasn’t some big click or emotional turning point. It may sound odd, but sometimes something just feels correct. No second-guessing. No “should I or shouldn’t I.” Just a quiet, matter-of-fact yes. Like it was always going to happen. And that is what the Rhino Peak Challenge is to me, something that is correct.

About me:

From the ocean to the mountains to 4x4 bundu-bashing, I am at heart a true explorer. I have lived and travelled across the world, from studying in Germany to sailing across the Mediterranean; my entire life has been dedicated to adventure. Growing up in Underberg, I always felt inspired by the beauty of this mountain range; rock-climbing and hiking since childhood motivated me to pursue adventure sports as my main hobby and go into a career based in nature conservation.

I have a great passion for the wilderness and have dedicated my career to assisting conservation efforts, working alongside Wildlife ACT and various nature reserves for over three years now. My adoration for nature encourages me to work hard to protect endangered species across African countries. Through this experience, I have learned how dedicated and hardworking the team at Wildlife ACT is. Inspiring me to raise funds in their name, contributing to this important work, which I truly believe supports our incredible biodiversity in South Africa.

About me:

I’m someone who loves travel, adventure, and the natural world — I’ve been lucky enough to explore the Amazon jungle and I’ve watched birds of paradise perform their mating dances in the forests of West Papua. I’m passionate about wildlife, staying active, and living a healthy, nature-connected life wherever I go. I am also very keen on giving back to the natural world from which I get so much joy.

Sporting bio:

I think I peaked athletically when I made it to the semi-finals of my hockey club beer pong tournament back in 2002. Haha, but in all seriousness, while I may not be in the same league as some of the ultra-runners who’ve tackled this event, health and fitness have always been an important part of my life. Whether it’s time in the gym, a run, or anything that gets me moving, I’ve always found joy in staying active. I naturally prefer being off the beaten track — give me a trail run over a road run any day. Some of my most challenging (and memorable) experiences have been the three Mnweni Marathons I’ve completed. It’s a truly magnificent but demanding event, where I’ve faced it all: breathtaking scenery, snow, rain, sun, and ITB.

Reason for taking challenge:

I thought I was getting a free weekend in the Drakensberg - now they’re telling me I have to run up a mountain and raise a bunch of money ??. Just joking, in all seriousness, this type of challenge fits my personality and passions perfectly. I love trail running and hiking, I love being out in nature and in the Berg, and I have a deep appreciation for wildlife and wild places. Spending time in natural environments with wild animals brings me a lot of joy, and the opportunity to take part in this event while supporting the incredible work that the beneficiaries are doing is an absolute privilege. If I can contribute, even in a small way, to protecting endangered animals, then every step will be worth it.

My health and fitness journey has been one of resilience, transformation, and deep personal growth. While I enjoyed sport during my school years, I never truly excelled or felt confident in my abilities. It’s only now, in my 30s, that I can proudly say fitness and wellness have become central to my life. For years, I battled with body image and carried the weight (physically and emotionally) of failed diets, quick fixes, and negative self-talk. But everything changed in October 2023, when I decided to stop chasing shortcuts and start showing up for myself. Having worked in the safari and tourism industry for most of my adult life, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Africa’s wildlife in its raw beauty but I’ve also seen the devastating reality of poaching. I’ve stood in silence, heartbroken, before the bodies of rhinos slaughtered for their horns. That grief fuels my determination to be part of the solution. The Rhino Peak Challenge offers me a platform to raise awareness and funds for these iconic creatures whose future depends on all of us. Aged 40 Gordon unfortunately had 5 operations in one year and decided to "get fit." 6 Months later he did a Half Ironman Triathlon for CHOC and the addiction to extreme challenges was born. Since then Gordon has done many triathlons, countless Amashova Cycle Challenge (on every conceivable bike including MTB, Road Bike, Tandem with both my daughters, Ice Cream Bike, BMX and even a Handcycle Twice), more than 10 Midmar Miles, 2 Dusi Canoe Marathons, Marathons, Hikes, Ultra Distance Trail runs and even a Half Marathon in a fluffy cow suit.

This will be my third Rhino Peak Challenge and to be honest it is a challenge like no other. The individual attention to detail is unsurpassed by the organisers. It is put on by some of the most passionate conservationists and is one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen from the top of the horn. Plus the money raised is spent so incredibly well and I really love that The endangered Wildlife Trust are making sure our rare species are preserved for our kids and their kids.

Hailing from the Kwazulu Natal Midlands town of Howick, having the Drakensberg Mountains on my doorstep is a great privelege. Happily married for 20 years and raising four lovely daughters who are our pride and joy. I am passionate about my career as a tour consultant and preserving wild spaces for future generations. Having travelled extensively, I have always known Africa as home, and I love sharing a piece of that with my guests. I live with the "You Only Live Once" philosophy, and I am constantly adding things to my bucket-list, some items more crazy than others.

I am not sporty in the definitive sense - I love being out and about walking in nature, with a couple of multi-day hikes in the Drakensberg Mountain Range being fond memories. This year I have been focusing on early morning swims in Midmar Dam, which has become more of a challenge during the Autumn months as the temperature has cooled. I have replaced my mermaid tail for legs, and have begun walking in the evenings to build up endurance for the Rhino Challenge, and I am working on my balance with yoga practice.

* I would like to prove to myself that being 'middle aged' is a state of mind, and I would still like to accomplish great things as I get older, proving to my daughters that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. * Raising funds for the Endangered Wildlife Trust is an added bonus, as I believe in the work they do preserving our African wildlife lures our guests to the African Continent. * The first 6 years of our married life was spent in the Southern Drakensberg foothills, and we have a family photo with each daughter aged 6 months with the Rhino Peak in the backdrop - I can't wait to look at those photos and say: "I summited that peak in one day!"

I am Malibongwe Sibiya, and I am the Wildlife ACT Southern Berg Project Vulture Monitor. My daily work involves the monitoring of Endangered and Critically endangered Vultures in Southern Drakensberg and Lesotho. My work also includes the monitoring of Bearded Vulture nests during the breeding season and the monitoring and management of Long-term camera trap surveys in the Maloti Drakensberg World Heritage Site and surroundings, I also help with the Environmental Education and awareness programs with local schools and providing of safe food for the endangered vultures at the Mzimkulu Vulture Hide and Safe Feeding Site in Underberg.

As a child, my parents would take us hiking every weekend in the Kogelberg Mountains above Kleinmond. We absolutely loved it and as a teenager, we enjoyed a little wooden cabin in the Cederberg Mountains (I have to confess, not much hiking but more sleeping was done). Currently, I am based along the Garden Route and exploring the George mountains have brought back this childhood passion of hiking. I have also been a runner throughout my life - not a very good or dedicated one but I do love a good run. I’m taking on this challenge for two big reasons. First, I care deeply about the environment and sustainability. Our wild spaces and the creatures that call them home matter, and this challenge gives me the chance to do my small part in protecting them. From a small village in Leicestershire in the UK, I've grown up around wildlife; looking for it on daily walks, and identifying what's flying above my head and running around at my feet. I can't imagine my life where wildlife conservation and the great outdoors aren't at the soul of my focus. I was lucky enough to meet many amazing people from Wildlife ACT in August 2023 on my volunteering trip at the Southern Berg Vulture Project, and have irrevocably fallen in love with the Drakensberg area since then.

Avid solo hiker, camper and woodland explorer. I've completed both my Bronze and Silver DofE awards. Love spending my fitness time in the outdoors, from leisurely paddleboarding and kayaking, to hikes such as Snowdon, Tryfan and Bamboo mountain or 10k trail runs. The last few months I've been focusing on more strength training at the gym with rowing machines, stair master and treadmill exercises.

Reason for taking challenge:

Conservation of species is one of my greatest passions. From growing up birdwatching, monitoring of house martins, graduating university with a Wildlife Conservation BSc degree, to now working in the water infrastructure field where my role contributes to conserving and protecting listed species and ensuring environmental compliancy. I spent my time growing up; hiking, camping and exploring in Wales, the Lakes and the Peak District. In 2023 I took part as a volunteer for Wildlife ACT's Southern Berg Vulture Project and had such an incredible and inspiring experience, not only witnessing hands-on conservation efforts, but meeting so many like-minded and inspiring individuals who are equally as passionate. I spent my childhood between the Middle East and The Kruger National Park, which developed a passion for all things outdoors. I am married with two daughters. I run a 2nd generation family business and whilst I care and worry about the environment my income is based on consumerism which means that I have to constantly search for new business opportunities. This has always concerned me as a linear economy is not sustainable. I have tried over the years to adopt a more circular system without much success. That said I am passionate about sustainable living and I'm trying to show my daughters that we need to change our lifestyle as the consumer-this will drive business to change.

Sporting bio:

Just an average joe....over the years I have hiked, been a lifesaver (for the red speedo) studied martial arts, cycled, run etc. I'm active most days of the week, enjoying boot camp, tennis, padel and intermittent running. I try and maintain a balance between strength, flexibility and endurance.

Reason for taking challenge:

An old friend who has also signed up for the challenge suggested I partake. I'm a bit concerned as to his motivation for getting me involved-I think he may still be upset that I swamped his boat at Jozini dam years ago and it almost sank-with him in it. Be that as it may it's an opportunity to experience an unspoiled part of our beautiful country with like-minded people whilst getting out of my comfort zone and at the same time raising some much needed funds for projects that are trying to protect what is left of our natural heritage.

Born in Zimbabwe. Living in S.Africa most of my life. Grown up with sport and an outdoor life. Swimming was my first fairly serious sport, but then I found the sport of Squash. Excelled from a young age and stuck to my dream of playing professionally on the world tour. As soon as school finished I embarked on the PSA World Tour for 12 years. Privileged to have played Squash all over the world. During my sporting career I also had a passion for endangered wildlife conservation.
