About me:
Rory Petzer doesn't just come from South Africa - he's utterly, unapologetically obsessed with it. Known as the Minister of Champions, Rory is a proudly Mzansi storyteller and multi-talented entertainer. Rory has built a career on celebrating everything that makes this country extraordinary: its people, its sport, its madness, its humour, and its heart. From viral in-car rants that hit different because they're so South African, to sold-out comedy shows and high-profile MC gigs, Rory connects with audiences through sharp observational humour, deep local flair, and the kind of authenticity that can only come from someone who genuinely loves where he's from. He doesn't just speak to everyday South Africans - he is one, and he wouldn't have it any other way. With a loyal and highly engaged social following, Rory has become a trusted voice for brands wanting to show up in South African culture in a way that's relatable, relevant, and real. And when he's not making the country laugh, he's running it - literally. A passionate fitness enthusiast and four-time Comrades Marathon finisher, Rory embodies the grit, spirit, and stubbornness that defines the best of South Africa. Sporty, spirited, and proudly Mzansi to his core.
Sporting bio:
Rory Petzer is not your average weekend warrior. He's a seasoned long-distance runner who has taken on some of South Africa's most iconic races and come out the other side with the medals to prove it. A four-time Comrades Marathon finisher, Rory has toed the line on the world's greatest human race which is a feat that demands not just physical endurance, but a particular kind of South African stubbornness that he has in abundance. Add two Two Oceans medals to that collection, and you're looking at someone who has conquered both the ultimate human race and the world's most beautiful race, multiple times over. Beyond the big ultras, Rory has racked up multiple marathon finishes, building a running résumé that speaks to years of dedication, early mornings, and a genuine love for the road. For him, running has never just been about fitness, it's about community, resilience, and the deeply South African experience of pushing yourself to the limit alongside thousands of others who feel exactly the same way. Whether he's grinding through the final kilometres of a brutal ultra or toeing the start line of his next marathon, Rory brings the same energy to his running as he does to everything else: all heart, all in, and proudly Mzansi.
Reason for taking challenge:
I love South Africa. Not in a passive, flag-waving kind of way, but in a deep, chest-tightening, this-place-is-in-my-bones kind of way. The landscapes, the people, the wildlife, the chaos, the beauty. All of it. This country is extraordinary, and I never want to take a single part of it for granted. But there's one thought that genuinely keeps me up at night: the idea that a child growing up in South Africa today might one day live in a version of this country that no longer has rhinos in it. I can't sit with that thought. I refuse to. The rhino is one of the most ancient, powerful, and magnificent animals to have ever walked this earth, and it walks our earth, our soil, in the country I love more than anywhere else in the world. The idea that we could lose them - not to nature, not to time, but to greed and poaching is something that fills me with a sadness and an anger I struggle to put into words. So I'm doing something about it. The Rhino Peak Challenge is not the easiest thing I've ever signed up for, but it shouldn't be easy. The rhino's survival isn't easy either. The rangers and conservationists fighting for them every single day don't get an easy road, and the least I can do is take on a hard one in their honour. I've run Comrades four times. I've crossed the finish line at Two Oceans. I know what it means to dig deep and keep moving when everything in you wants to stop. I'll bring every bit of that same fight to this challenge because the rhino deserves nothing less. This is for South Africa. For the wild, untameable, irreplaceable South Africa that I love with everything I have. Let's make sure it stays that way.
